Synopsis[]
The final episode of the Sky Original fantasy series arrives, as Diana and Matthew prepare for the final confrontation.
Plot[]
Having received a video of Matthew only moments prior from Benjamin, Diana and the others rally at Sept-Tours in a desperate bid to find and rescue Matthew. Baldwin appears moments later and reveals that the watch in the video sent from Benjamin was purposefully on show to lure in Diana. Baldwin reveals that Phillipe was a prisoner of war and experimented on by both Benjamin and Gerbert, therefore Matthew is more than likely being held hostage at the hospital as poetic irony.
Ironically, Ysabeau invites Gerbert to Sept-Tours where the two talk. She admits that they have the Book of Life and if needed, Diana will destroy all vampires. Tensions rise, and Ysabeau reveals that she is aware that Gerbert was involved in the death of her husband. Nonetheless, Gerbert promises that he and the Congregation will provide leniency if they hand over the children, but Ysabeau simply remarks that he has no dominion at Sept-Tours and orders him to return to Venice.
Diana, Miriam, Gallowglass, and Baldwin arrive in Poland at the abandoned hospital. They are able to track down Benjamin but finds numerous illusion spells created by Satu on the way. Diana creates a barrier spell to stop the others following her and sets off to find and confront Satu. Satu is horrified at the fact that Diana has absorbed the book but has no chance to fight back as Diana spellbinds her.
Fearing that Matthew is inching ever closer to death, Diana heads to find him. She begins practicing the knots taught to her by Goody Alsop and eventually comes face-to-face with Benjamin, who she eliminates with the tenth and final knot. She rushes to Matthew's aid and they take him back to Sept-Tours where he is able to recover under the watch of Ysabeau.
With Benjamin dead, the group turn their efforts to their journey to cure Blood Rage, and Miriam explains that they found something in Diana's DNA. Chris explains that Diana has daemon DNA and as do Matthew and many other of the people's DNA they researched. Chris explains that any human with daemon DNA sired by a vampire with the Blood Rage gene, then Blood Rage will manifest itself. It is also explained that weavers are descendants of witch-daemons and therefore everything is connected. Diana discovers that the Covenant has been stopping the cross-mingling of species and therefore the amount of daemon DNA has been declining – this is the cause of the Blood Rage.
Armed with this knowledge, Diana decides they must challenge the Congregation and throw out the Covenant. Baldwin is reluctant to allow this, however, and tells her that he cannot protect her in this endeavour. After contemplating, however, he and Matthew realise that Diana is well within her right to sit as the de Clermont representative within the Congregation.
Arriving at the Congregation, Gerbert is furious and remarks that Baldwin has signed the deaths of the de Clermont family for his actions. With the meeting started, Diana explains that the Covenant is killing their species and if they do not act fast, they will go extinct. She shows the members the linkage of the species through a tree that grows from the Book of Life, but still some members are reluctant to abolish the Covenant. Gerbert, for example, remarks that he remembers the chaos before the Covenant and the Congregation and does not wish this again.
Nonetheless, Diana calls for a vote within the Congregation and it is passed with a majority and for the first time in nine centuries, the Covenant is abolished. Diana also moves to elect Agatha Wilson as the head of the Congregation which also passes.
Returning home to Sept-Tours, the de Clermont family and their allies celebrate having finally escaped the threat of the Congregation.
