Ransome Fayrweather is Marcus Whitmore's eldest son. He became a vampire around the time of the Louisiana Purchase. He owns a nightclub on Royal Street in New Orleans called the Domino Club.

Ransome is described as speaking in a "treacle-covered" drawl. He loves a challenge, and a brush with the devil, which makes him something of a prankster. When Fernando announces that there will be hell to pay if anyone wakes him in the next 48 hours, Ransome arranges for a marching band.

Ransome holds a grudge against his grandfather Matthew Clairmont for Matthew's killing of many of his family members. He keeps a ledger with the names of every member of his family and other vampires killed in New Orleans by Matthew.

History[]

A Discovery of Witches[]

Although Ransome is not mentioned by name, Marcus thinks about his experience in New Orleans, where he had created a vampire family from the city's youngest, least responsible citizens. They risked discovery by humans every time they went out after dark. When Matthew and Juliette Durand arrive in town, Marcus' family suffers numerous deaths and disappearances. While not made explicit at this point, it is later revealed that Matthew and Juliette were responsible for the deaths.

The Book of Life[]

It is revealed that Matthew's actions in New Orleans were an attempt to protect Marcus and those of his children who were not affected by blood rage after the Congregation ordered them all killed. Marcus' family were unaware that they were carriers of blood rage until Matthew arrived to enlist their support for his attempt to form a scion.

While his brothers and sisters quickly fell in line, Ransome forced Matthew to list every sister, brother, niece, nephew, and child of his Matthew had killed, as well as any other vampires killed in New Orleans along the way. He is also pleased to learn that Juliette is dead, remarking that it sounds like Matthew has found himself a good woman.
